Visualforce & Apex
As standard, salesforce.com already offers very rich functionality, including the more technical aspects such as workflows and approval processes. These functionalities, as well as the standard screens, pages, objects and fields can be modified or expanded by a trained salesforce.com administrator. Most of these modifications are made on CRMWaypoint’s Agile implementation projects by one of our Business Analysts, who are also all salesforce.com Certified Consultants.
In addition to this standard functionalities and the possibility of modifying this reasonably easily, companies may, for example, require more specifically designed user interfaces on the basis of a specific business process. This can even go so far that the user interface deviates from the standard salesforce.com ‘look & feel’ but better fits with an existing environment or process. In order to achieve this, Salesforce has a component-based application: Visualforce, and this is an important framework of the Force.com platform to make individual user interfaces on the basis of salesforce.com.
In addition to, or as part of a Visualforce solution there is the possibility of using the Apex programming language of salesforce.com. With Apex, every developer can use the same tools that the development team of salesforce.com uses to build applications. Apex is a Java-type environment that will be familiar to developers. Furthermore, applications designed with Apex can be made available as a web service using SOAP and XML standards.
For the correct use of Visualforce and Apex, other skills are needed within a project team than setting up salesforce.com. In addition to the Business Analysts mentioned earlier, CRMWaypoint also employs experienced developers with a solid background in Java programming including web services. All our developers are salesforce.com Certified Developers. Force.com, Visualforce and Apex have no secrets from us! See also Force.com
